We don’t know how you feel, but we can’t believe that September has arrived. September signifies the end of the summer and the return to a regular schedule for many. Schools and colleges resume, and those who had a lighter summer work schedule return to a regular routine. This can be especially challenging for people who struggle with TMJ disorders, as high levels of stress and anxiety can trigger their symptoms and cause them to resurface once again. We wanted to share some helpful tips for an easy transition to whatever this fall has in store for you. Continue reading to learn more.
Tips for Easing Back into a Fall Routine
September is the perfect time for a fresh start for many. Times of new beginnings can bring on certain stressors and anxieties that can lead to TMJ symptom flare-ups. We want to share some helpful tips to incorporate into your routine this fall to hopefully keep any symptoms at bay:
Create a Schedule
If you have a lot of responsibilities and activities starting back up this fall, it is important to make a schedule for yourself. Knowing what is happening daily can help you feel prepared and less overwhelmed.
Sit Properly
If you sit at a desk for school or work, be sure that you have proper posture. It can be easy to hunch and sit forward. Avoid slouching when possible and do your best to sit straight, with your shoulders back and your chest forward. You want to keep as much pressure off your jaw as possible.
Maintain Good Sleep Habits
When starting a new routine, it can be easy for sleep trouble to creep in. Be sure to turn off electronics before bed, add in some relaxation exercises, and focus on getting a minimum of seven hours of sleep a night.
