It’s hard to believe that we are in December and the middle of the holiday season. While this time of year is filled with plenty of joy, it can also be stressful when people think of all that needs to be done in a short time. The added stress can be triggering for people who experience TMJ problems. We want to share some helpful tips to manage your stress so you can enjoy this time of year to the fullest. Read on to learn more.
Managing TMJ During the Holidays
While the holidays are a time of joy, it can also be easy to get overwhelmed. Be sure to try these tips to help you have a relaxed holiday season:
Create A Plan
- During this time of year, it may feel like your plate is always full and more responsibilities are piling up. Creating a plan and calendar for the season can be helpful to know what needs to be accomplished at what time. Making a daily list and schedule for yourself can also be the visual tool you need to help prevent added stress.
Travel Wisely
- If you are traveling during the holiday season, we want to help you have a relaxing trip. If you are flying, be sure to account for wait times and don’t let tension build up in your neck and shoulders. The same is true if you are traveling by car. Add in extra rest stops to be sure you are stretching and getting some steps in. If you have hardware that is part of your treatment plan, be sure to pack it and bring it with you. If you are flying, we recommend keeping any hardware in your carry-on to prevent anything from getting lost.
Add in Rest Time
- This time of year, it always seems like we are on the go. There are endless things on the to-do list and plenty of people to visit. Make sure you take time for yourself to relax during this busy period. Enjoying a favorite holiday movie with a loved one is a great way to relax.
